What do relationships look like to you? For me, real relationships are not relegated to a specific location. Real relationships happen where lives are lived and things aren’t always (or usually) in order.
Jesus was so relational. Where did Jesus go after he met Matthew the Tax Collector (Matthew 9)? To Matthew’s home. What about Zacchaeus (Luke 19)? To his home. Where did Jesus go? Weddings, Caesarea Phillipi, to wells, pools, boat trips, down the street… Jesus went where life is lived and that’s where Young Life Leaders go.
I love the picture above. The picture was taken at a birthday celebration. It was taken in a home where high school kids and Young Life Leaders were hanging out together. As a matter of fact, two birthdays were being celebrated: One, a high school kid’s birthday; and the other, a Young Life Leader’s. I love this picture because it is a picture of life together. It is the picture of relationships. In real relationships, there is no hierarchy…there is simply life together!
“We were not looking for praise from people, not from you or anyone else, even though as apostles of Christ we could have asserted our authority. Instead, we were like young children among you. Just as a nursing mother cares for her children, so we cared for you. Because we loved you so much, we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well.” -1 Thessalonians 2:6-8
